Whether they’re together on a pizza, over pasta, or in scrambled eggs, this trio works. They won’t surprise, and they aren’t cutting edge; but when it comes to flavor, they bring it. Add a slice of whole grain bread and you’ve got a seriously good breakfast, hot lunch, or light dinner. Change it up with different kinds of sausage, or use vegetarian crumbles for a meatless version. Tips: If possible, choose organic eggs or eggs from grass-fed, hormone-free, antibiotic-free chickens. Never store fresh basil in the fridge because it will turn black. If it’s very fresh, trim the stems and stand them in an inch of water in a jar on your counter. Drape a plastic bag loosely over the leaves. If it’s not perfectly fresh, wrap it in a damp paper towel and enclose in a zip-lock bag. It should keep fairly well for several days.
